With a wide ranging December auction, the beverage auctions thank you for an eventful year, and would like to end it with a mythical Swedish whiskey story: the rare Ship Whiskey.
The large categories of Champagne, Bordeaux, Italy and Burgundy dominate the auction's wine department. Many extensive vintage series give way for deep educational dives. Here are some great years that tie together essential wine areas: 1961, 1982, 1990 and 1996. Narrow studies of recent years such as 2005, 2009 and 2010 are also offered; top-rated vintage years in Bordeaux with concentration, power and potential as common denominators. If Spain and the United States also boast long-lived wines and great complexity, we find the most concentrated wines among the sweet beverages: Port wines, Sauternes and viscously unique Tokaji Essencia, nectar for the gods.
The distillate category is dominated in usual order by Scottish whiskey, which has linked myth and history to the beverage experience masterfully. But we need not go to Scotland for a true whiskey story: Ship Whiskey, the result of Sweden's first large-scale whiskey production. A short-lived attempt from Södertälje and characterized by the 1950s and 60s post-war optimism. The December auction may show one of the few known remaining items in a late bottling from 1969/70.
Auction: 9 – 11 December
